Old-Fashioned Progressive
Monahan says a "reader from rural NM" asked him this:
I am intrigued by the growth of a self-labeled “progressive” wing of the Democratic Party. I consider myself progressive, but I don’t know really what the label means to most people and whether others would characterize me as progressive...I don’t hear people talking much about what it takes to be a “progressive.” You might ask your readership to weigh in on the topic..What are the criteria? Who are the leaders? Is a progressive, just a dressed up version of a liberal? What does it take to get your card punched and who punches it? Please enlighten us hicks out here in the boondocks!
Wiki defines progressivism pretty well, actually. It isn't a big intriguing mystery that we need a little contest to solve for the benefit of his very few readers that don't already know.
On the other hand, there has been other self-labeling that lacks any clear definition. Senator James Taylor self-labeled himself just last week. So Joe:
I am intrigued by the decline of a self-labeled "old-fashioned" wing of the Democratic Party. I consider myself old fashioned, but I don't really know what the label means to most people and whether others would characterize me as old fashioned...I don't hear people talking much about what it takes to be "old fashioned." You might ask your readership to weigh in on the topic...What are the criteria? Who are the leaders (other than, of course, the three legislators who lost in the last election)? Is an old fashioned person, just a dressed up version of a conservative? What does it take to get your card punched and who punches it? Please enlighten us hicks out here in the boondocks!
Nice picture!

You know some days are just meant to happen. I dropped by to see what you were up to and realized I can aid the person who wondered about progressives.
First and foremost I suggest the definition provided by Wikipedia is suspect because the authors are, you guessed it, progressives.
A progressive is a coward and a fraud who is scared to proclaim they are a liberal. Progressives know that liberals have a well deserved tax and spend reputation and seek to obfuscate their liberal positions.
Oddly enough conservatives are actually the most progressive, but that's another issue.
I've got to check your posts more often Coco but in the mean time, always glad to be a help.
