Obituaries

A sobering sign of age -  obituaries of leaders and mentors like Vince Griego and Joan Rosner. 

Never used to read obits and now I'm an open aficionado - an old biddy sharing news of the fallen with other old biddies.  We fuss over details, scrutinize writing style and content. They didn't mention Saint Mary's. Qualified critics, because we have written obituaries before.   

A well written death notice is a clear summation of a full life.   It should be free and in large print - none of this expensive tiny- type.  It should give a taste of that person's life - sweet, not bitter.  (But bitter-sweet is OK.)  An obit  is the closest thing most of us will ever get to a biography.  It should include photographs. It should make everyone cry.  It should be read aloud with proper cadence.  (I want mine read aloud with different accents - but don't worry, I haven't written it yet.)

Obituaries should never have to be written.
