Attorneys for the non-profits respond to the Albuquerque Journal about the recent ruling on campaign finance law and Attorney General Gary King's demand that the organizations register as PACs for "political" mailings. It is a clear explanation and I particularly liked this bit:
Without a hint of irony or tongue-in-cheekiness, the Journal editorial is entitled, Politics Needs to Stay Out of Zoning Issues - which sounds a little like an Onion story. Politics
should not vote!
The paper echos a chiding Councilor Michael Cadigan got from Judge Ted Baca about a zoning case and ends with this hackneyed Reaganesque refrain:
If you've ever followed a zoning appeal, you'll smirk too. This talk is tone deaf to the balance of power between homeowners and corporate real estate interests.
Not to mention the politics of land use.
