Lee Roberts

Having moved to Deming, NM exactly a year and three days ago, I'm the opposite of expert in NM politics. Nevertheless, I have never lived in a place, from many Maine towns, NYC, southern and northern California, to a short stint in East Texas, where the secretaries have secretaries and the layers of bureaucracy stack higher than a quinceniera cake.

Have you read Colin Woodard's American Nations? He offers comforting rationale, if not many solutions.

And water here in Deming, the land of windmills sucking delicious water from a Gila-rich aquifer when I was a child, doesn't stand a chance against the pecan farmers.

I wanted to work in planning, became a reporter, then teacher instead. Sorry it went so wrong.
