Big Dog Reading

Big Big Dog has matured into a beautiful beast since his puppyhood three years ago.   He has stopped chewing rugs.  Thank God.  He went through about 4 Navajo saddle blankets and the edges of 3 Persians.  He also chewed novels and photograph albums. I dreamed he was in a book club with Humpy the neighborhood Chihuahua.

He still has puppy habits, like stealing socks.  And he has recently renewed his taste for paper and likes to pull empty cardboard boxes out of the garage and tear them up into at least fifty pieces.  He took apart, page by page, the April Harper's - chewed up the Index that has all those weird statistics.  Then I found a set of site plans in the yard and he had mouthed the NW corner.  I take that as comment on the proposed fence line.

So I give him papers to play with now.  Yesterday it was junk mail addressed to my sister who died ten years ago.  He took it and placed it deliberately in the center of his rug.  It was still there a few hours later and thought he'd forgotten it but then I noticed he had taken it outside to his collection - a circle of toys,  box-bits, sections of the Sunday Times and socks - matched pairs.
